Phillies signing of Delmon Young, who’s the odd man out?

phillies_1The Phillies signing of Delmon Young to a $750,000 one year deal, loaded with incentives a good signing if you are down on platoons. Young who has had off the field troubles which is why he came so cheap has a great opportunity to start, everyday and it will be at the expense of…..to be determined in spring training? Stories or talk of it being Ruff the odd-man and starting the season in triple A ,would be disappointing if true. But if it were in right and Brown being out? I love the move, as Brown has not lived up to any of is hype (YET) and also hasn’t given the Phillies any power which they still need in the lineup.

Last season with Detroit, Young had 18 home runs and knocked in 74 and more importantly had a strong playoffs. The downside, can Young stay on the field and stay out of trouble? $750,000 is not a big risk and the reward, well if all goes right Amaro just might look like a genius when the trade deadline approaches. Having plenty of cash to make a big move for the push to the playoffs and having a productive low paid starter.
